60 Minutes Video (ABSENT)

1. What is your opinion of the topic of the video? Explain why!
I feel that this is a bad and good thing. The upper level goverment needs insider trading to do their job, and they are just there to recieve the extra information regarding particular investments and investment oppurtunities. If they didn't have the information, they wouldn't be able to do their job in the ways that it needs to be done. But they are using the information to benefit themselves, not the general public.

2. What can you do about your opinion? How can you make your opinion count?
My opinion can be made known by writing a letter to one of the states representatives or senator. My opinion would matter more if I gave information to back up why I feel this way. By giving examples of how it is or is not effecting the general public, they would then realize that the public is not given the same opportunies that they are, and therefore they don't have the same opportunities to make money.

3. What is insider trading? What was the information that caused Martha Stuart to go to prison?
Insider trading is government officials using the "inside" information that they have on stocks and the stock market to make themselves more money and give themselves money making chances that not every person is allowed. Martha Stuart went to prison from using insider trading to make herself more money. By researching into this topic more, I learned that she was using her own products that she was releasing to other business to invest in those businesses stocks. She was able to use her products to make her more money aside from the fact of the money that she is making from selling them.

4. What is "Black Friday" and when did it get its name? What is "cyber Monday"?
Black Friday is the most popular shopping day after Thanksgiving. It is the day when most businesses have major sales to make more money. It got its name from the depression. The day that the stock market came back up was on Black Friday. Therefore on that day, people started spending more money and the market continued to grow and get better. Cyber Monday is the Monday after Thanksgiving which is when businesses online have major sales. This is following Black Friday, and people continue to Christmas shop and save money by partaking in these major saving shopping days.

Candy Stock Trading (ABSENT)

I WAS ABSENT FOR THE ACTIVITY!

I feel that by watching the video, talking to those who participated in the excerise, and by watching other videos that trading stocks on the stock market floor would be very stressful. It would involve a lot of communication, and understanding of what you are selling or what you are investing in. I also feel like that by being under stress, you would make decisions that aren't as accurate or as smart as they could have been, if given time to think through them.
Based off of what I was told, the trading was very loud, nosiy, and hot. It was hard to tell what you were trading and what you were getting in return because of how hetic the room was with all the hustling and bustling of everyone. Therefore, I would not want to trade stocks because of all the crazy benefactors that come along with it.

Games Standards:

3.2: students formulate solutions to economic problems:
--- This game applies to students to solve problems by facing them with the dilemia of not having enough "electricity" to build other peoples and different structures. Before you can build other buildings and houses you have to have a certain amount of electricity and ecolocy points to allow you to build more. To solve this problem, you make the game happy by purchasing those other structures that meet the needs that then allow you to carry on.
3.1: students explain how different economic systems are organized for production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services:
--- Students can use the production of a shoe factory or of a taxi stand. These different businesses can then distribute their goods that they are creating for the consumption of the public. The people of the city that are relating to the consumption of the goods and services being provided is being used by the public for their public needs.
3.4: students demonstrate an understanding of economic principles that influence individual financial planning:
--- In the game, you can buy things that are vital needs to a school. You realize that these are financially important to the game because they are what keeps the town revolving. For an expample, you can buy a post office, which includes mail carriers which are vital to transportation of goods. Plus, you have to plan your cities budget on what is necessary for it to keep running: like a driving school, post office, and shoe factory are all things that give the city more money to keep it from going bankrupt. My country requires financial planning, by using teh services provided by others to keep the city functioning.
4.3: students evaluate the impact of technology and how it has shaped history and influenced the modern world:
--- Technology has been impacted because less and less things are needed to be done with physical labor. Many things are now being able to be ran by machine. Take for example in the game, my country, instead of man made labor at a power plant, the power from windmills keep the city with electricity. By all these advances, more and more people are going to be lossing jobs from technological advances. The modern world today is all based off of technology.
4.2: students analyze current events to better understand the world in which they live:
--- By traveling to different countries to celebrate different events, it benefits throughout the game, by giving you more money and experience points.  You can travel to dracula's country, and there you "celebrate" halloween and that allows you to get more money and unlock more characters. Therefore by staying up to speed in current events and participating it them, it helps to better your country.
4.4: students explain how past events impact present and the future:
--- The game allows you to launch contracts, to keep the business flowing. The past events are launching the contract whereas the way it impacts the present and future is by continuing to make you money. Also, by upgrading the business from lower levels to higher levels continues to increase the money making ability as well.
5.1: students interpret charts, maps, and graphs to answer questions dealing with people, places, events, or environments:
--- To determine what level you are on, or what requirements you must meet before going forth into the next era or level you must read the chart showing you where your strenghts are and where your weaknesses are. By reading the chart, you are now able to make the decisions to help advance to bigger and better areas of the game.
5.3: students demonstrate an ablitiy to organize and process information about people, places, and enviroments:
--- The way of organizing that I used in the game, was organizing each building based upon what it's purpose was. For example: I put all the hosues, apartments, and dormitories on one side of the street, and put all the businesses on the other. Then from there I had all the parks sorted out into their own special corners, and kept the windmills and other things effectin the ecology of the game in their own special spot as well.
